The Reasons Drip Coffee Machine Is More Tougher Than You Think

The Best Drip Coffee Machines

Drip coffee makers are workhorses capable of hands-off brewing. But they can also be large and bulky, taking up valuable counter space or a spot under the cabinets.

The best drip machines are sleek and easy to use. Some are equipped with extras that make a morning cup of coffee more customized such as timers that are programmable and self-cleaning modes.

1. De'Longhi TrueBrew

The De'Longhi TrueBrew can be used to make coffee in one step from whole beans to a cup of coffee with just a couple of presses. It has a built-in burr grinder (taken from the espresso machines of De'Longhi) that calculates the correct amount of grounds, and then compacts them prior to brewing - eliminating wasteful plastic pods and filters.

It also comes with a variety of settings for your preferred cup size and design, ranging from 3oz espresso-style beverages to 16oz iced coffee, or 40oz of the traditional carafe. It pours the coffee in your choice of vessel, from big mugs to the tiny espresso cups or even tall travel mugs that wouldn't normally fit in regular drip machines. It can even make tea!

Manufacturers are known to come up with ridiculous technical-sounding jargon, and this one has the Bean Extract Technology which "adapts and precisely grinds" the beans based on the choice you make. It's actually simply marketing. It's important to note that it's a breeze to use, fairly fast and doesn't make much of a mess when making coffee. It's not able make a quick shot or a long shot of espresso and does not include steam wand. If you're looking for these features, I would suggest taking a look at the Moccamaster KBG Select.

2. Cuisinart MultiServe

This is among the top drip coffee machines available on the market. It consistently produces delicious, hot cups of coffee that brew efficiently.

We also enjoyed the ease at the ability to modify the brewing experience. You can choose the size of your cup (from 5-ounce single servings to a full carafe) and your desired strength by simply turning a dial and also choose between a regular or french press setting. You can make cold brew at the push of a button or select from a range of specialty options like Over Ice and Roasted.

The only drawback is that the design doesn't match some of the more sophisticated models we've tested. The Smeg drip maker with a rounded design is, for instance, shaped like an Easter egg and is a nice alternative to the traditional models. Its narrow opening and slim tank can be tricky to navigate, particularly in the dark when the brew is running. It requires a bit more concentration and effort to get started in the morning.

3. Keurig K-Cup brewer

Keurig single serve coffee makers use pre-packaged K cups that eliminate the need to measure or grind grounds. They also let you control the brewing time. They can also brew coffee in under two minutes. This is significantly faster than a drip maker.

The Keurigs that we tested produced quite a mess than drip machines. The spout that spews hot coffee leaves a two-inch splash area, which leaves droplets all over the drip tray, machine and counter. They also make a loud, irritating popping sound while making coffee.

The Keurigs that we tested worked very well, despite the mess. The K-Cafe with Smart Keurig is the most sophisticated model, with a detachable reservoir, four sizes of K-cups, three temperature settings, and a menu that can be customized. It also comes with a dishwasher-safe milk frother that can froth whole, skim, and nondairy milk. It's an excellent choice for anyone who wants to make a new cup of coffee each day or for large families who need a bigger capacity.

Keurig Instant pod is another ideal choice for those seeking a single-serve machine that's easy to use and easy to use. It boasts a massive 78-ounce water tank that can make many cups before needing to be filled. It can also make a cup with your own ground coffee, a rare feature for a Keurig. The controls are simple and straightforward however the machine communicates with tones and chirps, not a display, which makes it difficult to determine the moment when a coffee is ready.

The reservoir also comes with a charcoal filter that helps soak up metals and other unpleasant odors and flavors in the tap water. This can cause your coffee to taste flat or burned. This means less maintenance, and a better tasting cup of coffee.

Another perk: The programming feature makes it easy to set your coffee to brew at a specific time. The pause button lets you to pour a cup or two of coffee before the full pot is brewing, which can be helpful in busy mornings when you require energy. It's also a very attractive coffee maker with a sleek and attractive an elegant design that appears more at home on the kitchen counter than most boxy drip machines.

5. Ratio Six

Similar to its older sibling, the Ratio Eight, the Six offers premium quality with a lower price point and smaller footprint. The single-button system emulates a pour over, with a precise measured flow of water and the perfect temperature for coffee. The machine utilizes a powerful 1400 watts to heat water and complete the entire process in five to six minutes. This is significantly less than many of the cheaper models we've tested. This speedy brewing is largely due to the bloom process, which allows coffee grounds to settle before the shower head delivers the remainder of the hot water for the best extraction.

The Six also has a unique heat shield to protect the spray head during brewing and also to keep the water at an optimum temperature. It is among the few brewers to be Golden Cup certified by the Specialty Coffee Association, which means it keeps the correct temperature of brewing throughout the brew cycle.

The Six is minimalist, sleek and minimal in its design. It features a stainless steel carafe, which sits on the top of a Melitta flat bottom filter holder. The insulated carafe keeps brewed coffee warm without the need for a heated plate that helps preserve flavor.

6. Gevi 10-Cup Espresso Maker

The Gevi brews great-tasting coffee and has an elegant, compact design that doesn't take up lots of counter space. The touchscreen panel has cute icons that let you choose one-touch commands. For instance you can select Bold or, if you are only making a half-pot of coffee, you can choose the One to Four Cups feature. It's great to have a built-in grinder that allows you to alter the size of the grind and the intensity of your coffee. It takes a little time to learn to use the machine but once you've done it, you'll be able to understand it. It includes many of the features you would expect to find in higher-end models.

It can't brew an entire carafe of espresso at once. This can be a problem if you're serving a lot of people. It's a good option for those who want a drip coffeemaker with a built in grinder, and the capability to create different drinks.
